RULES OF ENTRY
Please carefully read the following Rules of Entry: by submitting photographs to the WPGA 2009 Annual Juried Competition or the WPGA quarterly competitions, you fully agree with the below described Rules of Entry.
Who may participate and how contestants will compete:
- 1. All photographers, professional, amateurs and students, from every country in the world are eligible to participate. Amateurs and professions are not differentiated in the selection and awards process.
- 2. All images will be judged in the respective categories they are submitted.
- 3. All images are submitted online as digital files. Photographers with analog images are encouraged to participate by scanning their images into a digital file that meets the submission requirements.
- 4. Images selected for exhibition may be printed digitally or traditionally (using darkroom methods).
Categories and shooting date:
5. In the multi-thematic contests, images can be submitted separately to more than one thematic category. There is no limitation as to the number of images that may be submitted, or the number of categories to which an image is submitted. (See Categories for more details).
- 6. There are no date restrictions as to when the photograph was created, or if the image has been previosly awarded in other contest.
- 7. Images submitted online must conform to the specifications stated in Image Preparation (see SUBMIT).
- Deadlines:
- 8. There are two deadlines for the all WPGA contests (annual and thematic): An Early Bird deadline which provides photographers a discount of 30 percent on their entries, and a final deadline. In both cases entries must be submitted by midnight US PST (GMT-7).
- 9. WPGA reserves the right to modify the above described deadlines for a later date.
Selection of artworks, announcements, and inaugural exhibition:
- 10. Entries will be selected by a juror or group of jurors (see JURORS) on the announced dates announced. Jurors will select a list of awardees in each category. The announcement date will be posted on this site and an email will be sent to the awardees.
- 11. Decisions of the jurors are final.
- 12. The inaugural exhibition of each contest will be held in Madrid (or an alternative city to be announced by WPGA) no later than 180 days after the announcement of the awards. Works will be exhibited for at least 30 days.
Participation in the Inaugural Exhibition and benefit for humanitarian entities:
- 13. WPGA will contact via email the winners of each contest and all the awardees in each of the respective categories. All the awaredees will be invited to exhibit their selected art in the Inaugural Exhibitions.
- 14. The winners of each contest will be entitled to exhibit a maximum of 5 photographs each; awardees of each category or theme will be entitled to exhibit the image selected by the jurors. Jurors may select additional works for exhibition, including those works of the participants selected as nominees.
- 15. Participation in the Inaugural Exhibitions is optional for all awardees. Those who decide to exhibit may send their prints reasy for hanging (matted and framed). Or, participants can send just their print. In which case, WPGA will provide matting and framing at nominal prices. WPGA will also provide printing services to those who wish to send a match print and high-resolution file. Printed size should have a minimum width or height of 16 inches (40.6 cm).
- 16. Participants agree to make available a minimum of three prints for sale. That is, if the first print is sold, the participant will make available a second print, etc. Prints will be signed and dated by the authors. Those participants in the Inaugural Exhibitions accept that their exhibited art, available in editions of 3 or more copies, will be sold during exhibition or in auction. Artists will set the price of every edition. Artists will receive a 40 percent commission. The humanitarian institution sponsored by WPGA will receive a 40 percent donation from the balance of the sales revenue.
- 17.Photographer of the Year and recipient of the Humanitarian Documentary Grant of the Annual Contest and winners of the quarterly contests will be honored during the opening of the exhibition where they will receive their award certificate (The cash prizes will be delivered immediately following juror's announcement). Also during the opening ceremonies, a cash donation will be presented to the institution being sponsored.
- 18. Recipients Annual WPGA Photographer of the Year and the Humanitarian Documentary Grant will receive an air ticket (or equivalent) from their town of origin to Inaugural Exhibition city, plus three days lodging in a 5-stars hotel while they attend the Inaugural Exhibition.
Exhibition in WonderPick Gallery:
- 19. The winners of each contest, plus all of the category awardees and nominees will be invited to exhibit their selected art in the online gallery WonderPick, at no cost. Their art will be extensively promoted and sold online with certificates of authenticity. (see WonderPick for more details).
- 20. Exhibition in WonderPick will start concurrently with the respective Inaugural Exhibition.
Warrants: All participants of the WPGA competitions warrant that:
- 21. They own the work submitted and they have exclusive copyright. WPGA recognizes that the author retains full ownership of the image copyright.
- 22. Their photographs may be reproduced for the purpose of marketing and promoting WPGA contests, in catalogs, posters, postcards, publications, and on the Internet. Such use is granted for not more than two years after the announcement of the awards, and without payment to the photographer or featured models. Photographers will receive photo credits with each use, and will allow WPGA to sub-license their photographs to the press for reproduction in connection with the contest and WPGA exhibitions.

23. If required, they will be able to provide WPGA with high resolution images for printing in media.Privacy Policy:
- 24. WPGA will treat participant’s data confidential, and their email addresses or other personal data will only be used to contact the contestants, and will not be transmitted to third parties without explicit consent.
Acceptance of entries:
- 25. WPGA has the right to reject and remove any entry that contains defamatory, obscene, or pornographic content, or that may be considered a criminal offence or violate any law.
